Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have reportedly emerged as potential investors in Cadillac’s Formula 1 team, with discussions involving TWG Global over a possible stake acquisition valued at more than €2 billion. According to The Guardian, the American sports investment group is among the leading parties interested in acquiring shares currently held by TWG Global, potentially expanding its motorsport interests into Formula 1.
The reported interest comes during a difficult debut season for Cadillac, which has yet to score a point in the 2026 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. The American outfit has endured several races towards the back of the field and has already undergone a change of team principal, while questions have also emerged about the financial situation surrounding its ownership.
Liverpool owners linked with €2bn Cadillac F1 investment
Cadillac’s struggles have not been limited to its performance on the track. TWG Global, the investment company led by American billionaire Mark Walter, is reportedly exploring the possibility of selling part of its shareholding in the Formula 1 operation. Among those interested is believed to be Fenway Sports Group, the company that owns a majority stake in Liverpool Football Club.
According to The Guardian, the potential transaction would be worth more than €2 billion. Such an investment would represent a significant expansion of Fenway Sports Group’s presence in international motorsport, adding Formula 1 to a portfolio that already includes a substantial involvement in American racing.
The group, associated with businessman John Henry, already owns a 50% stake in RFK Racing, which competes in NASCAR. Its sporting interests extend considerably further, with ownership interests in Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League.
A potential investment in Cadillac would therefore bring together two major American sporting investment groups, with Fenway Sports Group entering a Formula 1 project that has faced a challenging start to its competitive life.
TWG Global responds to speculation over Cadillac ownership
Mark Walter also has significant interests in American motorsport outside Cadillac, although he has reportedly come under investigation in the United States in recent months in connection with allegations of insurance fraud.
Against this backdrop, TWG Global has denied various reports suggesting that the company is preparing to dispose of major sporting assets. These have included speculation concerning the possible sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, which Walter owns, as well as the Cadillac Formula 1 operation.
Nevertheless, The Guardian reports that contacts between TWG Global and Fenway Sports Group have indeed taken place, despite those denials concerning a wider disposal of assets.
For Cadillac, the reported discussions introduce a further dimension to an already complicated first Formula 1 campaign. While the team continues its efforts to establish itself competitively, the possibility of an investment involving Liverpool’s owners raises questions about the future structure of its ownership. No completed agreement has been confirmed.
