A Brazilian GP to Forget for Lewis Hamilton
After a decent performance in Mexico City, Lewis Hamilton faced another nightmare weekend. The seven-time world champion was knocked out in Q1 during Brazilian GP qualifying, and then managed only a disappointing 10th place, beating Checo Perez while trying to pass his archrival, Liam Lawson. A weekend to forget for the English driver, who, haunted by past frustrations at Interlagos, went as far as to describe this year’s car as even worse than the one he drove in 2022.
Lewis Hamilton Speaks
“We were simply slow,” Sir Lewis Hamilton told Sky UK, “and the car was very, very difficult to drive. I still want to thank the guys in the garage because they got up very early in the morning and did an excellent job over the weekend. As for the people working in the factory, I know they feel pain over our current situation, but it’s also true that the team still could have won the GP, so at least one of the two cars was performing better.” – the British driver pointed out.
Comparing to the 2022 Mercedes F1 Car
Lewis Hamilton went on to describe the negative characteristics of his W15: “It was like riding on a wooden plank without suspension. We were just bouncing on the tires at every corner, and it was impossible to push on the accelerator. Definitely the worst-handling car I’ve ever driven, especially in the corners. Luckily, we shouldn’t have any more circuits with these bumps.” He also drew a comparison to the W13, the first car of the ground-effect era, which was often undrivable due to porpoising: “I’m certain that in 2022, the car bounced more, but overall it was a better car than this one.” – the future Ferrari driver concluded at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.
