Lewis Hamilton motivates the team
For Lewis Hamilton, returning to success at Silverstone (and then repeating at Spa-Francorchamps in the Belgian Grand Prix, although it was a win due to the disqualification of his Mercedes teammate) was a satisfaction that at least partially made up for the struggles caused by two and a half years without victory. Watching Max Verstappen’s successes for two seasons has not shaken the spirit of the seven-time world champion, who still wants the eighth title. He showed this first by seeking new motivations at Ferrari, and then on track with the W15, proving wrong all those who had hastily called him “washed up.”
The Brit himself explained the shift in his approach from a ruthless, all-conquering driver to one who has to find positives even in small improvements in the car. He maintains this approach now because, despite Mercedes winning three races in 2024, it is still not a car consistently capable of fighting for top positions, as evidenced by the minute that Lando Norris gained over them in Singapore.
Lewis Hamilton’s comments
“This season has definitely been better than the others. The last two years have made life hard for all of us on the team. I would say these rules have made life difficult for everyone: some weekends we arrive thinking we’ve improved, but we’re not great, while other weekends suddenly we’re there, we win the race, and that lifts us up,” said the Brit in Singapore.
“It’s a bit like playing golf,” Lewis Hamilton added, referring to the ups and downs even in 2024. “One good shot keeps you going, but all the other shots are terrible! It can be so frustrating, but you enjoy it and keep going. We have to keep pushing because we’re trying to regain that feeling we had at Silverstone or Spa.” – the future Ferrari driver concluded.
