Lando Norris reveals the challenge behind losing pole at Hungarian GP. Lando Norris reflects on McLaren’s unexpected qualifying setback at the 2025 Hungarian GP.

Lando Norris, McLaren 2025 F1

Lando Norris secured the third fastest time in qualifying for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing behind Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri. Here are the British driver’s comments following the session.

After dominating all the free practice sessions and topping Q1 and Q2, McLaren was unexpectedly outpaced by Charles Leclerc, who surprised everyone by clinching pole position. While his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri secured second place behind the Monegasque, Lando Norris had to settle for third position. Despite this, Norris remained optimistic ahead of the race. Saturday was a day for McLaren to analyze and understand what changed between Q2 and Q3. In his post-qualifying interviews, Norris shared his perspective.

Lando Norris’s words:
“Considering our form and performance level, it was definitely disappointing not to get pole position, but I think Charles did an excellent job on his final lap. Then, of course, these conditions hurt us a bit. The change in wind clearly affected us more than others. But I don’t want to complain: he did a good lap in the end, and we were slower.”

“It was very difficult to manage the tires, but in Q2 I think we showed how fast we can be and displayed a good advantage. Then the wind changed and everything vanished. The last sector became even more complicated, so it wasn’t an easy lap to put together. When you manage to do it, it feels great, but when you don’t in Q3, it’s not very nice.”

Speaking about the race, he added:
“As for tomorrow, I want to push forward and win, and obviously if I do, I’ll gain some points. I think it’s going to be an exciting race. I believe and expect that we will have a slightly better race pace compared to Charles, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
