Lando Norris is determined to build momentum in his 2025 Formula 1 World Championship campaign. After securing his first career back-to-back victories at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and Silverstone in the United Kingdom, the British driver arrives at the Belgian Grand Prix with ambitions to claim a third consecutive win. Spa-Francorchamps feels like home to Norris, whose mother hails from the Flemish region of Belgium, and the 23-year-old approaches the weekend as a strong favorite due to his recent impressive form. However, he will face stiff competition from his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who is known for his calculated and ruthless driving style. Despite trailing by just eight points in the drivers’ standings, Norris shows no fear of Piastri and views the Belgian race as a golden opportunity to narrow the gap further, dreaming of overtaking his teammate in the championship right in the Ardennes.
Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Norris expressed confidence in his current form and readiness to sustain his strong performance throughout the season. “I feel like I’ve regained the speed I had before,” said Lando Norris. “The most positive thing about these last two weekends is that my pace was better from the very start. I felt more comfortable with the car and understood how to get the most out of it. Sometimes, that progress makes me smile even more than the wins themselves because seeing real improvements is incredibly satisfying.”
Norris acknowledged that there is still work to do. “I know there’s still a lot to improve. I have to maintain this level of performance more consistently, but I’m confident I can achieve that. I understand everything better now. We’re talking about tiny details, but I do feel like a bigger threat to Oscar Piastri now. We’re still working on some areas to make the car deliver more for me, like it did last season. There were things I had to improve on, and I think I’ve done that.”
He also highlighted the competitive mindset in the team, downplaying past victories in favor of focusing on the present challenges. “Nobody really cares who won at Silverstone or in the previous races. Tomorrow, we’ll be measured on track. What counts is who can be the best tomorrow and over the next three days.”
Norris described the Belgian Grand Prix weekend as one filled with opportunities for all drivers, even more so than Silverstone, especially with the unpredictable weather forecast predicting rain on Sunday. “I think this weekend has a lot of opportunities for everyone, even more than Silverstone. We have an advantage because the team has given us a really good car, but I don’t expect the same advantage in a weekend like this. With the weather, anything can happen. It will be more about consistency than outright speed.”
Finally, Norris shared his thoughts on the major technical changes coming in Formula 1 for the 2026 season. “I don’t think Formula 1 can get any better than it has been in recent years. In 2026, the gaps between cars will be bigger, but that doesn’t mean the races will be worse. I think there are many things that will make racing better. The only thing I don’t want to see is races that feel artificial or fake. That’s not motorsport, and it’s not what I like. The cars won’t be as spectacular in terms of lap times because they’ll lose speed at the end of the straights. There are still aspects I want to improve, but it will be a new challenge and a fresh start for everyone. That’s what makes Formula 1 exciting, and at the end of the day, we just want to drive.”
Lando Norris’s words underline his hunger to continue pushing McLaren forward and his determination to challenge Oscar Piastri for the 2025 championship, especially as the season reaches one of its most iconic venues. The upcoming Belgian Grand Prix promises to be a defining weekend in the intense teammate rivalry that could shape the future of the team and the championship battle.
