The Monaco Grand Prix has always been considered more of a festival than just a regular race. Long before the events in Miami and Las Vegas came along, all the world’s celebrities gathered here for their moment in the spotlight. Naturally, there is no better place to celebrate a special occasion. This is exactly why McLaren has brought a brand-new livery to the Principality to celebrate its 1,000th Grand Prix. However, following the double DNS in China, this actually turns out to be their 999th race. The exact milestone will officially land next Sunday in Spain, a venue far less glamorous—meaning the team had clearly prepared its marketing campaigns well in advance.
The Woking-based squad is coming off a fairytale two-year run, crowned by their double World Championship titles in 2025. The reigning champion himself, Lando Norris, took to the microphone to speak about these special days. “I am proud to have been part of the team’s history, as we celebrate our 1,000th Grand Prix here. For me it’s a dream, I know I am the driver with the most starts for them, but I don’t care much for statistics,” the British driver told the media, including us at GP-News.net.
Nevertheless, Norris is well aware that replicating the magic of 2025 will be difficult, down to both the technical limitations of his current car and the looming qualifying traffic. “With the two Cadillacs also on the grid, it will be difficult to manage the timing, right from the very first Free Practice sessions. It wasn’t easy in previous years either; you always had to look in your mirrors and the engineers had to be reactive in sending the right messages. But splitting us into two groups would not be the solution, because the track conditions would change too much between sessions, risking unfair results,” the Englishman added. “It won’t be that terrible, though.”
In conclusion, while McLaren’s historic milestone brings a celebratory atmosphere to the Woking camp, the focus quickly shifts to the intense demands of the Monte Carlo street circuit. Managing traffic and executing a flawless qualifying session will be critical if Norris and his team want to turn this marketing showcase into a genuinely competitive result on Sunday.
