Criticism of Lance Stroll
Despite holding a 14–8 lead over Fernando Alonso in the internal Aston Martin battle in the current championship standings, Lance Stroll has recently come under fire, especially following his wrist injury and a rumored outburst in the garage towards his team.
Former F1 driver Timo Glock was particularly blunt on Sky Deutschland, suggesting Stroll could even be dropped from the team—despite it being owned by his father, Lawrence. Glock stated: “From a sporting point of view, he’s clearly not performing at the level he should be after so many years in Formula 1. Over the course of a season, he’s simply too far off the pace, too inconsistent, and prone to mistakes.”
Lance Stroll’s response
During Thursday’s media day in Austria, Lance Stroll addressed the criticism directly: “I think Formula 1 is a business full of short-sighted opinions. If you have two good races, you’re the best driver in the world, but if you have two bad ones, they say you don’t belong on the grid and that you’re trash. That’s how it goes, it’s always been that way and it always will be. When you have a s*** day, it’s no fun. But when you have a good one, it’s enjoyable. I’m focused on what I’m doing, on myself and my engineers.”
And the rumors from Spain…
George Russell’s recent comments about the ongoing discussions between Max Verstappen and Mercedes reignited a rumor that surfaced days ago regarding Aston Martin’s interest in the British driver. According to Marca: “There’s another rumor circulating in the paddock that Aston Martin may want Russell for 2026, as a replacement for Lance Stroll, who is not going through his best moment. It seems unlikely that the Canadian would be pushed out—unless he chooses to leave—but this situation is worth monitoring. In recent weeks, internal tensions have emerged, though the full extent remains unclear. If Mercedes does not renew his contract, Russell would be very interested in joining Fernando Alonso. It would be his only serious option with a team that has real future ambitions.”
