Lance Stroll returned to Canada after missing the Spanish round and went into detail about the issue.
After qualifying in Spain, Aston Martin had announced that the Canadian driver would not take part in the race. Just a few days before the Canadian GP, however, Lance Stroll confirmed his return to the paddock for his home race. During media day in Montreal, the Aston Martin driver wanted to put an end to a matter that had stirred some speculation.
In announcing that Lance Stroll would not take part in the GP, Aston Martin had also specified the issue affecting the Canadian driver: wrist pain. Initial speculation suggested lingering effects from the crash in Singapore in 2023. Later rumours, however, spoke of a restless Stroll after qualifying in Spain, who may have lost his temper with the team.
Lance Stroll clarifies the issue in Canada
Lance Stroll explained: “My wrist was bothering me for a few races—in Imola, Monaco, and then Barcelona. It was really horrible throughout the whole weekend. I had a procedure and drove this week. I felt pretty good, so I’m confident.”
As for the cause, the Aston Martin driver reiterated that it was an old injury from which he was still feeling the aftereffects. “It started bothering me again, so I took care of it. As an athlete in any sport, I think you always try to push through the pain and discomfort as much as possible to try and get a good result by the end of the weekend.”
The team did not provide many details regarding the Canadian’s health condition, and Lance emphasised that this was his own choice. “I don’t want to go into details about what I had to do and how I had to do it, because it’s just my medical privacy and I like to keep that kind of thing private. All I can say for sure is that I’m feeling much better and I’m looking forward to the race weekend.”
