Ahead of the Canadian GP, Fernando Alonso revealed the first details about the project Aston Martin will bring to the track in 2026: the first creation by Adrian Newey.
We are at the start of the tenth round of the 2025 Formula 1 season, but many already seem to be focused on next year. On this topic, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has, for the first time, shared some information about the project Aston Martin will debut in 2026. The new “green machine” will bear the signature of the English genius Adrian Newey.
This season, the AMR25’s performance has been far from satisfactory. A distant memory are the impressive flashes of 2023, when, with several podiums from Fernando Alonso in the first half of the calendar, the team managed to finish fifth in the Constructors’ standings. Looking at their current situation, the team appears completely different: second-to-last position with just 16 points scored.
A miracle is clearly needed to revive one of the most iconic names in motorsport. And that miracle might arrive next year. Aston Martin could become a serious contender: its organizational chart has been almost completely revamped, with major signings from other teams. Among the most notable names are Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile.
The two will begin work in one of the most modern facilities in the paddock. The factory was recently completed and includes a brand-new wind tunnel equipped with the latest technology.
Speaking to DAZN Spain ahead of the Canadian GP weekend, Fernando Alonso revisited the 2026 project and did not hide his optimism. “I believe no one will know whether the car is right or not; until we hit the track for the first free practice sessions, no conclusions can be drawn,” said the Spaniard.
“It’ll be the typical winter where everyone wants information, but no one knows anything. It may take a few GPs… maybe. So far, I can say we’ve done the best job possible: we’ve improved some of the weaknesses the car seemed to have when it was first designed. However, we don’t really know what our rivals have been working on or what direction they’ve taken. It’s a matter of being patient and trusting at the same time.”
