Mercedes back on top with Antonelli in Miami
Kimi Antonelli secured pole position in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix, bringing Mercedes back to the front of the grid with the #12 car. Once again, the young Italian showed a stronger feeling with the car compared to teammate George Russell.
While everything can still change in Sunday’s race, Antonelli’s qualifying performance was a standout moment of the weekend. Speaking to Davide Camicioli and Vicky Piria, the Italian driver reflected on his session and the challenges faced.
Antonelli reflects on a difficult weekend
“It has been a complicated weekend, we struggled with the balance compared to other teams that brought major upgrades. But qualifying went well, and I’m very happy with the lap I did in Q3.”
A mistake on his final flying lap almost compromised the result, but in the end it did not cost him pole position.
“In this track anything can happen, my rivals are very strong. I made a mistake on my last attempt, and I won’t hide that I was disappointed: Charles and Max could have beaten me, but fortunately it didn’t happen, and now my focus is completely on tomorrow,” he added.
Emotional dedication to Alex Zanardi
Finally, Antonelli delivered an emotional message after securing pole position, dedicating the achievement to a close friend.
“I dedicate this pole to Alex, a great friend of mine. I send my most sincere condolences to the family,” he concluded.
