Kimi Antonelli continues to accelerate his rise through Formula 1 at remarkable speed. In Miami, the young Mercedes driver turned a weekend that started with some difficulties into a standout qualifying performance, securing pole position ahead of Max Verstappen thanks to a lap built on precision, sensitivity, and flawless power unit management.
The key factor was the deployment of electrical energy, which had been adjusted after issues on Friday. Antonelli explained:
“On yesterday’s decisive lap I had some limitations in managing the power delivery, but today we managed to distribute it better across the whole lap. It’s not easy to find the right point, but even on short straights you can gain a lot.”
Max Verstappen attempted to respond with higher speed in certain sectors, but Kimi Antonelli proved more effective in direction changes and acceleration phases. The decisive advantage came in the final part of the lap, where Mercedes maintained a stronger energy boost, allowing the Italian driver to finish ahead.
Lando Norris played down the surprise factor:
“I don’t think we did a bad job. I think instead that yesterday others were not able to extract their full performance, while today they showed their true potential.”
George Russell, who qualified fifth, openly admitted his struggles:
“I made a mistake in the final corner when I was improving. This track doesn’t give me much confidence, it’s slippery and the tyres don’t seem properly connected to the asphalt.”
Toto Wolff ended with a remark highlighting his driver’s talent:
“Kimi pulls out a massive lap, and then he always wants something more. This time at least he didn’t hit the wall: he only threw away the second attempt.”
