Kimi Antonelli’s podium at the Singapore Grand Prix has earned widespread praise for the intelligence and maturity with which the Mercedes driver managed the race. Sky Sport commentators highlighted the Italian’s ability to understand the different phases of the Grand Prix, maximise his opportunities and avoid unnecessary risks as he strengthened his position in the Formula 1 title fight.
Carlo Vanzini described Kimi Antonelli’s performance as “a Pippo Inzaghi-style podium, built on cleverness and intelligence”, underlining the way the Mercedes driver took advantage of the opportunities that came his way without forcing situations that could have compromised his result.
Kimi Antonelli praised for racing ‘like a veteran’ in Singapore
Roberto Chinchero offered a similar assessment, focusing particularly on the maturity Kimi Antonelli has demonstrated despite being only in his second Formula 1 season and just 20 years old.
“Antonelli races like a veteran. There is nothing accidental about what he is doing with this car, he has his own vision of the race,” Roberto Chinchero said. “He doesn’t make mistakes, just as Russell doesn’t. Mercedes isn’t immune to mistakes: Russell made one when he was leading.”
Chinchero also highlighted the importance of consistently collecting strong results even on weekends when outright victory may not be possible.
“You win the World Championship when you score 15 points even when you don’t have the car to win.”
Antonelli’s race management strengthens his title challenge
Ivan Capelli also praised the clarity and composure shown by the young Mercedes driver, describing the Singapore performance as “a display of intelligence”.
“He stayed hidden until the opportunities came,” Ivan Capelli explained.
That measured approach allowed Kimi Antonelli to maximise his result without exposing himself to unnecessary risk. Rather than forcing the pace at every stage of the race, he remained patient and capitalised when the circumstances moved in his favour.
The Singapore podium therefore provided another demonstration of the qualities that have become increasingly important in Antonelli’s championship campaign: consistency, race awareness and the ability to extract a strong result even when victory is not immediately available.
For Mercedes, the performance offered further evidence of the maturity Antonelli has developed in only his second Formula 1 season. For the Italian, it represented another valuable result as he continues to consolidate his position in the battle for the 2026 World Championship.
