Kimi Antonelli eighth in China
While George Russell made it to the podium in an almost perfect weekend, Andrea Kimi Antonelli struggled to secure points, finishing 42 seconds behind his teammate in Shanghai. The gap is not only due to the difference in experience between the two drivers but also to an issue with the floor of the Bologna native’s W16, a problem that only emerged at the end of the Chinese GP.
Kimi Antonelli’s comments
“I felt that something was off from the first lap. I was struggling a lot with the rear, and the car had significant oversteer, which I wasn’t expecting because yesterday it was the opposite. In the Sprint, I was struggling with the front,” he told Sky Sport F1 after the race. “I could tell the car wasn’t the same as yesterday, but I didn’t know about the damage until they told me at the end. Apparently, when Charles Leclerc lost a piece of his wing, I hit it with the floor, which made things more difficult.” – he explained.
“To be honest, I’m not satisfied with my start, especially with yesterday’s qualifying. In Japan, it will be important to have a good qualifying session and put everything together to start further up the grid. I’ll also analyze what I could have done better in this race so I can improve for Suzuka.” – the Italian driver concluded at the end of the 2025 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.
Despite a tough race from the first lap, Kimi Antonelli scored points for the second consecutive race. Surprisingly, the 18-year-old was voted driver of the day by the fans—though even he might not agree, as he expects much more from himself.
