McLaren ahead of everyone
The first two weekends of the 2025 season ended with wins for McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who took the top spot in Australia and China, respectively. In the latter race, both Woking drivers even secured a one-two finish, further fueling the feeling among those who see the English team’s representatives as the favorites for the world title.
Watch out for Lewis Hamilton
However, before his disqualification from the main Shanghai race alongside teammate Charles Leclerc, the victory in the Sprint Race went to Lewis Hamilton, who claimed his first win with Ferrari. This result, combined with the qualities of the seven-time world champion, makes Hamilton one of the contenders for the championship, at least according to Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who won seven Formula 1 races.
For the former Williams and McLaren driver, not including Hamilton in the list of potential 2025 world champions is a mistake: “You can’t count Lewis out yet this year,” he commented in an interview with Mirror Sport, “but the main question is how well Ferrari can respond. Ferrari is not far from McLaren; they’re missing maybe two upgrades, because they are about two steps behind the Woking team.” – he pointed out.
Lando Norris vs Oscar Piastri
The 49-year-old also focused on the internal battle between Norris and Piastri, convinced that the Australian could outdo his teammate: “The only way for Oscar is to beat Lando regularly in qualifying, because I think if he can do that enough, he would mentally destroy Lando,” he concluded. “But if Lando can hold his ground in the next three or four races, he’ll have a good chance of beating him. At that point, I believe Lando will dominate the entire season.”
