Jos Verstappen reveals preference for Max’s potential new Red Bull teammate in 2025. Who does Jos Verstappen prefer as a Red Bull teammate for his son?.

While one side celebrates a drivers’ championship now secured, Red Bull is still reflecting on Sergio Perez’s performance, which has been lacking for months. His low results have not only hurt the team’s standings but also contributed to them missing the constructors’ title.

In the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite starting five positions ahead of his teammate, Sergio Perez finished the race with a 50-second gap in just over half the race after the restart, highlighting an at times embarrassing difference between the two Red Bull drivers.

With the Mexican’s future in question and either Liam Lawson or Franco Colapinto potentially ready to step in next season, who does Jos Verstappen prefer as a teammate for his son?

Jos Backs Lawson
“I think Lawson is doing very well,” the Dutchman said in an interview with Viaplay – “It seems logical that he’s ready to take a step forward. Let him finish this season to build confidence, and then the team will have to decide what to do for next year. I’m certainly not against it [Lawson replacing Sergio Perez]. It’s better to have someone competitive who pushes Max to keep moving forward. That always helps, but we’ll see.” – he pointed out.

According to recent reports, Red Bull might even be willing to pay the release clause to bring Colapinto over from Williams, though logic suggests Lawson is the clear frontrunner to take Sergio Perez’s place.

There’s also been recent buzz around a possible return to contention for Carlos Sainz, even though he’s already signed a two-year deal with Williams through 2026. These are questions likely to be settled by the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, with official confirmations expected soon.
