In an interview with Motorsport.com, James Vowles emphasized the importance of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon for Williams’ new project.
The British team is ready to leave the 2024 season behind. Due to numerous incidents, Williams was unable to fully express its potential. Now, it can turn the page with its new driver pairing of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz. The contribution of both drivers will be crucial in laying the foundations for the next season and also for 2026, when the new regulations will come into effect.
Carlos Sainz was announced as Williams’ new driver in July 2024 and had the opportunity to carry out his first tests with the British team’s car in December. James Vowles noticed the Spanish driver’s work ethic from the Abu Dhabi tests. Despite having raced with Scuderia Ferrari until the previous day, during the tests, he appeared fully focused on developing the new car. Vowles told Motorsport.com: “You could see it from the moment he jumped into the car in Abu Dhabi, his mind switched on. This is where he wants to be, this is what he wants to do, he is part of our success story. He is adapting perfectly.”
Carlos Sainz’s experience could be an added value for Williams. The team principal also added: “His contributions – as well as Alex’s – are absolutely fundamental to moving this team forward because now we are at a level of detail where we are chasing milliseconds rather than the expensive elements we work on.”
Carlos Sainz has also demonstrated his importance in every team he has raced for in the past, and this has not gone unnoticed by James Vowles: “He leaves nothing to chance. Today, there’s a statistic on the F1 channel where you can see all the teams he has been with and where they finished. It’s not a coincidence. He is a hard worker, a diligent worker who brings success with him – and he wants us to succeed.”
