Jack Doohan has opened up about a terrifying episode from his 2025 Formula 1 season. In one of the episodes of Netflix’s Drive to Survive season 8, which will officially premiere on February 27, the Australian driver recounted disturbing experiences during his time with Alpine.

Replacement announced

The 23-year-old from Gold Coast, Australia, vented about his mid-season removal. Doohan began 2025 as Alpine’s third driver, taking part in the first six Grands Prix before being replaced by Argentine driver Franco Colapinto. The switch took place between the Miami and Imola Grands Prix, but it had been anticipated since the start of the season. Alpine team boss Flavio Briatore had openly favored Colapinto, who had been signed from Williams for a substantial fee.

During his first races of the year, in which he also made several driving errors, Doohan became the target of overzealous Colapinto fans who quickly turned into online critics and social media haters. His family had previously raised concerns about the harassment, but the full extent of what the Australian had to endure has only become clear now. In the Netflix series, Doohan confessed that he received multiple death threats, including messages sent directly to his personal email.

The threats in Miami

“I received serious death threats,” Doohan revealed. “They said they would kill me there if I didn’t give up the car. I got six or seven emails saying that if I stayed in the car until Miami, they would tear me apart.”

He then recounted an even more alarming incident: “It was Wednesday. I was there with my girlfriend and my coach, and I found myself surrounded by three armed men. I had to call my police security detail to get everything under control. 99% of the time I stay silent,” Doohan concluded. “Everything I’m saying here is only a third of what I could say. These are pretty serious things. It’s not the most enjoyable way to race.”

Following the Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was replaced by Colapinto, marking a difficult end to his early 2025 season with Alpine.
