Franco Colapinto will take the Australian’s place, but he can’t rest easy either. The Argentine driver, in fact, has only been confirmed for five races. Meanwhile, social media saw some defensive messages in support of Jack Doohan from his father, who sent a not-so-subtle message to Alpine.
Jack Doohan’s future had been uncertain ever since his first race in Abu Dhabi. Throughout the winter, his name was surrounded by speculation, and once the season began, Franco Colapinto‘s shadow was always looming.
Before the Imola GP, the replacement was confirmed, and someone publicly voiced their disagreement. That someone is Mick Doohan, Jack’s father and five-time MotoGP World Champion. The motorcycle legend didn’t hide his disappointment over Alpine’s decision, though he didn’t issue a formal statement. Instead, he posted two Instagram stories comparing his son’s race results with those of Pierre Gasly.
In race conditions, the French driver has generally outperformed his teammate, except in cases of retirements. However, what stands out is that Jack Doohan’s results haven’t been that far off from Pierre Gasly’s, largely due to a car that hasn’t allowed either driver to achieve strong finishes. The former MotoGP rider didn’t add any comments to his post, but his intent seems clear: to show that the decision about his son was unjustified.
