Now it gets serious
Abu Dhabi 2024 was just an appetizer, but the 2025 season must be the main course for Jack Doohan in Formula 1. After making his debut in the final Grand Prix of last season, replacing the ousted Esteban Ocon, the Australian, son of a motorsport legend, has now been given the opportunity to prove himself as a full-time driver alongside Pierre Gasly at Alpine.
At least on paper. Many in the paddock doubt that the 22-year-old Aussie will complete the championship. Flavio Briatore’s signing of the talented Argentine Franco Colapinto from Williams as the third driver raises suspicions: his arrival at Enstone, combined with rumors suggesting Doohan has signed a ‘temporary’ five-race contract that will be reviewed afterward, has fueled speculation.
Annoying rumors
However, the man in question remains understandably confident in himself and his ability to complete his first F1 season without interruptions. In an interview with RacingNews365, the son of motorcycle racing legend Mick Doohan emphasized the warm welcome he received from the team. “It was fantastic,” he said. “The team has welcomed me with open arms for a long time. They have been accommodating and very supportive towards me.”
Jack Doohan will be paired with a seasoned F1 veteran like Pierre Gasly: “I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him and building a strong relationship to ensure the best package for the team. What will I learn from him? A bit of French, for sure,” Doohan joked, “but above all, I will benefit from his experience, observing how he approaches race weekends. And it won’t be just a one-off, like it was in Abu Dhabi, but for the entire season,” he pointed out. “So I’m excited to learn as much as possible from him, contribute, and hopefully push each other to make sure our car is as fast as possible.”
