The Frenchman breaks through
After the tears from his DNF in the formation lap in Australia and the unfortunate strategy in China, Isack Hadjar and the Racing Bulls had a fantastic weekend in Japan, finishing the race in a stunning eighth position, the best of the rest behind the top teams, even beating Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull.
The reigning F2 vice-champion scored his first F1 points, and in Bahrain, his goal is to earn more, even though the winter tests weren’t promising for the Racing Bulls: “Bahrain is already the fourth race of the season, and even though it sounds crazy to say, we were really fast, and finally, in Japan, I scored my first points,” said Isack Hadjar. “We earned them on merit, pure pace, which gives me great confidence going into this weekend. Even though we had a tough test here before the start of the season, I think we’ve made great progress. Now, returning to the same track with the experience gained, it will be really interesting to see where we stand. The whole team and I are really confident we can continue fighting for Q3 and for points.”
Liam Lawson in Bahrain doesn’t start from scratch; he tested with Red Bull and already raced with Racing Bulls in Japan. The New Zealander will look to improve his performance: “I love night races, and in Bahrain, I’ll be able to continue getting familiar with the Racing Bulls after the Suzuka weekend. The potential is high, and I’m really looking forward to maximizing it.”
