Isack Hadjar arrives at Monza ready to stay focused and manage expectations
A week after Isack Hadjar’s first career podium, Racing Bulls heads to the ‘Temple of Speed’ at Monza this weekend for their second home Grand Prix of the season after Imola. The Italian circuit holds a special place for the Faenza-based team, which has achieved some of its most exciting milestones in Formula 1 on this track.
Back in 2008, under the Toro Rosso name, Sebastian Vettel secured the team’s first pole position, first podium, and first victory in F1 at Monza, all achieved in wet conditions—a historic moment for the team. More recently, competing as AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly claimed his first career victory at Monza, though unfortunately spectators were absent from the podium due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
For the current Racing Bulls team, the hope is to write another memorable chapter at Monza, just days after Isack Hadjar finished third. “It’s very exciting to return to racing just a few days after such an important result last week,” the Franco-Algerian driver commented. “Being at Monza, one of our home races, is special for us. There is a lot of confidence within the team, but we also want to manage our expectations and stay focused. It could be challenging, as it’s a circuit with many long straights, but it will be important for us to be in the fight so we can aim for another strong result.”
The ‘Temple of Speed’ has also brought satisfaction to Liam Lawson, although in categories outside F1. The New Zealander secured a pole position and a podium in F3, as well as victories in Euroformula Open and DTM. “It’s very exciting to take part in the team’s second home race of the year, following a fantastic weekend for the team with Isack on the podium. The car has been very fast recently, which is really positive, so I’m excited to continue on this path. Monza is a track we’ve all raced on since we were kids. It has so much history, so it will be amazing to be back,” he said.
