After Lando Norris’s crash in qualifying, Oscar Piastri decided not to take any risks on a track as tricky as Jeddah. The Australian driver, who will start from second place in the race, knows he has an opportunity not to waste since his teammate will be starting from tenth place. A potential podium could allow Oscar Piastri to take the World Championship lead. Achieving this would likely shift the hierarchy within McLaren, given that team orders have been a topic Andrea Stella has had to manage since last year.
On several occasions, the two McLaren drivers have shown they are not willing to take a step back, often stepping on each other’s toes. This is something a team fighting for both championships cannot afford to tolerate.
Oscar Piastri Talks About McLaren’s Superiority
At the end of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying, Oscar Piastri commented on his performance and McLaren’s performance. “I couldn’t have done much more. I’m happy with my lap, and I think there wasn’t much that could have been improved. Max did a great job on another high-speed circuit where they seem competitive.”
“It’s always difficult to find the right rhythm here. It’s not an easy track, but when evening comes, the grip with the red tires is incredible,” added the Australian driver.
