The 2025 Formula 1 season marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Following its separation from Red Bull Racing, Honda chose to partner with Aston Martin to tackle the 2026 regulation overhaul together. This partnership promises sparks: on one side, Honda’s engineering prowess, and on the other, Adrian Newey’s genius, set to design the AMR26 and lead the team as the new Team Principal.
Honda and Adrian Newey: intense collaboration, common goal
Honda is working closely with Aston Martin, and the synergy with Adrian Newey is already central to the project. Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation, emphasized the frequency and intensity of discussions with the legendary British engineer:
“Adrian is one of the people I communicate with most often, and these exchanges are usually intense, full of opinions, suggestions, and feedback, but always focused on one goal: winning.”
Koji Watanabe’s words come at a crucial moment, shortly after Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso confirmed that Adrian Newey is entirely focused on performance.
Beyond engineering: strategic vision and overall management
The collaboration between Honda and Aston Martin extends far beyond pure engineering. Koji Watanabe explained that every discussion with Adrian Newey embraces a broader vision, covering design, management, and even financial resource allocation:
“Whenever we discuss technical aspects of components or development, we always do it with a long-term goal in mind: achieving victory. And this can involve anything: it could be a detailed design issue, but equally it could be competitor analysis, how to manage people to get the best out of them, or even finances and the most effective use of the budget cap.”
A radical transformation ahead
With Honda as an exclusive partner and Adrian Newey ready to take on the unprecedented role of Team Principal, Aston Martin is preparing for a radical transformation. The combination of Japanese power and British vision could truly write a new chapter in Formula 1 history. The challenge is clear: there is only one goal, and that is to win.
The revolution has already begun.
