Helmut Marko continues to identify the stars of the future. According to the Austrian advisor, Mercedes may already have another rising talent within its ranks—or rather, within the family itself: Jack Wolff, Toto Wolff’s young son.
Mercedes, is the future already secured? Berger’s and Wolff’s sons on the radar
In recent years, Mercedes has stood out for its junior driver program, which has allowed the team to develop entirely in-house a pairing now formed by Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, currently first and second in the World Championship standings. The Italian, in particular, has surprised everyone in 2026, securing victories in Shanghai and Suzuka and immediately establishing himself as a major force at the top level of Formula 1. However, it seems that Mercedes may already be looking even further ahead than the talented Bologna-born driver.
According to former Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, the Brackley-based team could already have its long-term future secured. In fact, that future might lie within Toto Wolff’s own family. Marko believes that Wolff’s nine-year-old son, Jack, could be the next prodigy destined to make his way toward Formula 1.
Marko’s comments
“Antonelli’s performances confirm Wolff’s instinct, but Toto has another ace up his sleeve. His son Jack is extremely quick in karting, and Johan Berger—Gerhard Berger’s son—is also very fast,” Marko told Austrian outlet OE24. “So the conditions are definitely there for the return of an Austrian driver to Formula 1.”
Marko, who has built a reputation for discovering young talents—although not always giving them enough time to develop within Red Bull—also spoke about Antonelli, a driver he has long admired: “I immediately understood that he was very fast. He was just inconsistent. This year things have changed, and now I even believe he can fight for the title.”
In summary, while the 2026 season is currently being dominated by the immediate impact of Kimi Antonelli, the watchful eyes of veteran scouts like Helmut Marko are already turning toward the next decade. The mention of Jack Wolff and Johan Berger highlights a growing trend of famous racing surnames continuing their legacies, ensuring that the political and sporting intrigue of the Formula 1 grid will remain high for years to come.
