More points in the bag
The positive streak continues for Haas, which, after almost a “double” points finish in their home GP in Austin, managed this time to fully bounce back in Mexico, placing both drivers in the top 10. A performance that allows the team not only to further strengthen its sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, extending its lead over Racing Bulls to +10, but also to narrow the gap from Aston Martin, now at -40 after another non-points finish for both of its drivers.
Kevin Magnussen’s joy
For the third time in the 2024 Formula 1 season after Melbourne and Spielberg, Haas managed to finish a race with both cars in the top ten. However, in previous occasions, it was always Nico Hülkenberg who prevailed over his teammate Kevin Magnussen. In Mexico City, however, the story was different, with the Dane not only finishing ahead of the future Sauber driver but also achieving his best result of the season in 7th place: “It was really a perfect day,” explained #20, who defended his seventh position from the start. “We got everything right, the car’s balance was just in the right spot, and I was able to manage the tires when necessary and push to the max when necessary. P7 is a better result than we could have hoped for, because Oscar Piastri was in front, and I managed to keep him behind. Last year was tough, but I feel I’m finding my rhythm again, so I hope to finish the year scoring points in these last four races.” – he pointed out at the end of the Mexican Grand Prix.
Satisfaction for Nico Hülkenberg as well
Close to finishing in 8th place after starting from tenth, Nico Hülkenberg had to yield to the McLaren of Oscar Piastri, yet ended up in the top ten for the third consecutive time: “It’s a fantastic day, with another double points finish for the team,” he commented after his 9th place. “I’m very happy for Kevin as well, who drove a brilliant weekend, he really deserved it. I think it’s another eight points, so we’ll take them and put them away, and it’s positive to be so competitive. It’s a very rewarding feeling; everyone’s hard work is paying off, and now we’re consistently in the points fight. This shows the consistency of the package and the car, and it gives me confidence looking forward to next week and the next three races.”
