Haas: The latest technical updates will debut in Austin
The Haas F1 Team has chosen to celebrate the US Grand Prix with a special livery, but in Austin the news won’t be only aesthetic. As reported in August, the team led by Ayao Komatsu will also bring a package of technical updates to Texas, with the declared goal of climbing up from their current ninth position in the Constructors’ Championship. With six races still to run, the possibility of gaining two or three positions remains realistic, provided the team can find more consistency in the points zone.
The season for the American squad has been rather unusual. Ahead of the championship, Haas had high expectations, aiming to establish themselves as midfield contenders with an ambitious project designed to overcome some of the limits observed in the VF-24. However, the results have not met expectations, leading the team to develop the car with some delay.
For this reason, the team’s push has not yet “faded.” After addressing fundamental issues in Imola, the VF-25’s evolution process actually began around the British Grand Prix. Given the positive results achieved with that package, the engineers still had additional developments in store, including updates to the floor.
However, the Texas weekend will be a challenging testing ground. As it is a sprint weekend, there will be only a single practice session to collect data and compare different aerodynamic solutions before heading straight into qualifying. Even if the updates deliver only a tenth of performance, it could have a significant impact, especially with teams so closely matched where mere hundredths of a second can mean multiple positions on the grid.
Austin will once again be the stage where Haas tries to combine symbolism and substance: on one side, the embrace of the American fans with the celebratory livery, and on the other, the technical challenge of an evolutionary package to test immediately during a sprint weekend. And who knows—among stars and stripes—there may even be some valuable points to gain.
