Lewis Hamilton’s time with Mercedes is coming to an end, and Guenther Steiner has identified the reasons behind the driver’s frequent radio complaints.
Before analyzing Guenther Steiner’s comments, let’s look at Lewis Hamilton’s words after the race, when he described the W15 as the worst car he had ever driven. “It’s like a wooden board. There’s no suspension, it just bounces on the tires. There’s a lack of power everywhere.” – he explained.
In response, Guenther Steiner explained that Mercedes is not a good car at the moment. The Italian then added: “I think for Lewis, knowing he’s leaving, it’s easier to complain.”
“George has every interest in doing everything possible to prove he’s the future team leader. He has to show it, because he knows that when his contract with Mercedes expires, his seat is not 100% secure, so he’s just trying to do his best. Lewis has reached the point where he doesn’t like the car, he complains, and he sees the glass half empty. George, on the other hand, sees it half full. They still have a few races to go.” – the former Haas team principal pointed out.
Speaking about the team’s overall struggles, Guenther Steiner explained that the team thought they had found the right formula, but after a few good races, they returned to being the fourth-best team, behind McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull. “They’ve won three races this year. Then they said, ‘Oh, now we understand what we need.’ And then the next race, they hadn’t figured it out.”
