Gernot Döllner (Audi CEO): “Cadillac’s entry adds value to our F1 project”. Gernot Döllner believes Audi made the right choice by entering Formula 1.

F1, Audi among the newcomers of 2026
With the 2025 season still at the starting line, Formula 1 is already thinking about 2026. And it could not be otherwise, as just a few days ago, teams started working on their next-generation projects for a future F1 that will also feature new participants like Audi and Cadillac.

The Americans, who are only waiting for official registration from the FIA, will be watched closely by Audi. They are teams with different histories (Cadillac started later and had to almost begin from scratch, while the four-ringed brand, having bought an existing team, could rely on the foundations of Sauber), but they will naturally compete immediately to be the best debutant of 2026.

Gernot Döllner’s words
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner emphasized this aspect, admitting that Cadillac’s arrival adds value to the German brand’s entry: “A new manufacturer is about to enter Formula 1. It’s a demonstration of the strengths of this championship. I believe that competition is what we need, and that it adds value to our project,” he said, as reported by Racer.

Audi will take to the track with its logo in 2026, while 2025 will be the final year for the Kick Sauber team under this name. The Hinwil-based team has relied on Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley as head of the F1 project and team principal, respectively. A revolution is also underway at the wheel, with farewells to the Valtteri Bottas – Zhou Guanyu pairing and the arrival of Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto: a mix of experience and youth that Mattia Binotto hopes will prove successful.
