Gabriel Bortoleto secured the Formula 2 title at the end of this season after a battle until the final race with Isack Hadjar. The Brazilian driver won in his debut season in the category, just as he did last year in Formula 3. Now, he is set to take another leap into Formula 1 with Kick-Sauber.
Gabriel Bortoleto’s emotion after receiving the seasonal awards
“I am very happy with this award. Last year I had a great rookie season, but Oscar Piastri also impressed in his first year in Formula 1 and received this award. It’s very important for me that this honor has been given to me for the first time.”
These were Gabriel Bortoleto’s words after receiving the Rookie of the Year award at the year-end ceremony organized by the FIA. The same award had previously gone to great drivers such as Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri.
“It has been two intense weeks, I fought for the title with Isack Hadjar, who also had a great season. Even though it all came down to the beginning of the last race when Isack had a problem.”
“However, it was exciting because we were also fighting for the team title, and we managed to win both.”
In the end, the Brazilian wanted to thank his Formula 2 team, Invicta Racing, and also McLaren, which accompanied him and gave him the opportunity to grow. In fact, starting next season, Gabriel Bortoleto had to dissolve his contract with the British team to race in Formula 1 with Sauber.
“When I was told that I would race in Formula 1 in 2025, it was one of the best moments of my life. A childhood dream came true, and it was very special for my family as well because they have done so much for this and have supported me since I was a child to help me achieve this dream.”
