Fourth win in F1 for the Mercedes driver
George Russell is the fourth different winner in the first 10 races of this season. Mercedes joins McLaren and Red Bull among the teams that have scored victories so far in 2025.
George Russell started the Canadian Grand Prix from pole position and never gave up the race lead, except during pit stop phases when he briefly found himself behind other drivers. A year ago, George Russell made several driving mistakes that effectively handed victory to Max Verstappen, but this year he was flawless.
“I’ve felt very strong throughout this start to the season; it’s not that I’ve done anything differently this weekend compared to the others, it’s simply that the car has been more competitive,” George Russell told Sky Sport. “This weekend we had the chance to win, and we did — that’s why I say I’m ready to fight for the championship, because when there’s an opportunity to seize, we take it. I’m proud of the team. Of course, we still need to find a few more tenths of pace, but we haven’t made many mistakes in these first races, and this win personally redeems the one I feel I missed a year ago when I made several errors during the race.” – the British driver concluded at the end of the race which was held at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
