George Russell fires subtle shot at McLaren drivers: “The car is strong in the right hands”. George Russell takes a jab at McLaren drivers.

George Russell, Mercedes, 2025 F1

McLaren started 2025 confirming itself as the car to beat, securing three wins in the first four races. The gap with rivals isn’t too large, meaning a setup error can open the door for the most aggressive team, as seen at the Japanese GP. The other teams, however, are not standing still and have already begun their technical fightback, planning their first upgrades. The first challenger is Mercedes, which appears to be the most well-balanced car, though not necessarily the fastest. For George Russell, however, it will be difficult to close the gap.

“The McLaren, in the right driver’s hands, is untouchable,” the driver told the media, including us at Formula1.it. A statement full of mind games, with a subtle jab at the papaya-colored drivers. Lando Norris, in particular, has faced criticism recently for failing to maximize results at the Bahrain GP, making a few too many mistakes. “Even at the start of the season, we knew Bahrain would be their strongest track. But they also managed to take pole and win in China, a track with low temperatures and little degradation — the opposite conditions. We are behind them in the standings because of their mistakes, because that car could finish one-two in every race. Max won once, and we finished second last week, but I don’t think they’ll make mistakes at every race.” – the British driver concluded ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend.
