George Russell recently shared an important reflection on what he has learned throughout his career from Lewis Hamilton, especially regarding being a good role model for others.

The Mercedes driver explained: “To be honest, I think you only realize firsthand how much of a role model he is. I think in some way I recognized from Lewis that we all have visibility and we need to use it honestly. This became even more apparent to me when I watched my nephews who watch TikTok, YouTube, and Netflix.”

The English driver also emphasized how inspiring he finds the way his now former teammate has always handled both victories and defeats. In this regard, he stated: “I spend some time with Toto’s son – he and his friends also watch Netflix and all these things – and how they handle wins, how they handle losses.”

This observation is part of a larger context: before joining Mercedes, George Russell spent three seasons as a driver for Williams, years during which he often exceeded expectations regarding his performance, highlighting his talent and dedication.

George also referred to his desire to inspire new generations, reflecting on a special moment he had as a child. “You inspire the kids, and I think about this weekend, when I look at that picture I had of me and Lewis when I was a kid, I admired him in the same way all these kids look at us. I think that was probably the greatest life lesson I learned from him,” said the driver, emphasizing the importance of being a positive role model for younger people.

Russell was involved in a heated discussion with Max Verstappen after an incident in Qatar but still stressed how crucial it is to maintain respectful behavior, especially in front of young audiences. “Sometimes, even if you really want to express something, there are hundreds of millions of people watching you, and the way you do it is extremely important,” concluded the Mercedes driver, who has already won three Grand Prix in his career, reiterating the importance of communicating responsibly and consciously.
