Sauber looks to rebound in Austin
After a disappointing Singapore Grand Prix, where both Sauber drivers finished outside the top 15, the Swiss team is aiming to recover this weekend at the United States Grand Prix on the Austin circuit. The track offers completely different characteristics from the Asian street circuit, providing a fresh challenge for the team.
Another ‘first-time’ experience
The US GP program, which will not be held at night, will include the return of the Sprint race for the first time since Spa-Francorchamps. For Gabriel Bortoleto, however, Austin represents another new experience. The Brazilian, who had never raced in Singapore before last weekend, will face the same challenge in Texas. “I’m really looking forward to racing in Austin,” he said ahead of his debut. “It’s one of those circuits everyone speaks highly of, and I’ve been preparing extensively on the simulator. We did our homework in Singapore and are ready for the next weekend. Of course, we’ll need to make the most of the single practice session to familiarize ourselves with the track and fine-tune our car, but if we stay focused and seize opportunities, I’m confident we can deliver a respectable performance.”
Experience counts for Hülkenberg
Nico Hülkenberg, on the other hand, arrives in Texas with far more experience. He recorded his best result with Sauber at this track in 2013, finishing 6th—a result later matched in 2018 with Renault. “Austin is always a highlight, one of my favorite circuits on the calendar. The atmosphere, the fans, the track: everything is really enjoyable, and overall it makes for a fantastic week,” he said. “After the ups and downs in Singapore, we’ve regrouped and left it behind, aiming to extract the maximum from the car. The Sprint format gives us less time to put everything together, but it’s the same for everyone, and we’ll push to make every lap count, putting ourselves in a strong position for both the Sprint and the main race.”
