Sauber targeting points at Marina Bay
Sauber did not capitalize on the Baku Grand Prix to repeat the strong results achieved earlier in the season, and Racing Bulls is pulling away in the Constructors’ Championship in the unexpected battle for sixth place. Singapore could be another opportunity to aim for points on such a distinctive circuit. Below are the comments from team principal Jonathan Wheatley and drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg ahead of the Marina Bay race.
Jonathan Wheatley
“Singapore is a challenging race for the entire team. From the precision required on a street circuit to coping with heat and humidity, Singapore is a true test of endurance. After recent races, including Baku, we have seen that our pace in the midfield can be competitive, so we remain focused on putting ourselves in a position to capitalize on every opportunity that comes our way. There is still a lot to play for this season, and the motivation of everyone, both at the factory and on track, will continue to drive us forward as we tackle the final seven races of the championship.”
Gabriel Bortoleto
“I’m really looking forward to Singapore. The circuit is completely new to me, although I have been preparing on the simulator, so I am eager to see what it has in store. The night race, the walls, the heat and humidity: it will be a big challenge, but that is exactly what makes it exciting. My goal is to familiarize myself with the track as quickly as possible, find my rhythm, and make the most of every opportunity we have this weekend.”
Nico Hulkenberg
“There is something unique about driving under the night lights in Singapore, with the city all around. The track is a demanding challenge, with walls that leave no room for error and corners that require maximum concentration. The humidity is another factor to consider, but we are preparing well for these conditions. After a difficult weekend in Baku, I’m looking forward to getting back on track and battling in an incredibly competitive midfield.”
