Franco Colapinto has spoken with bitterness about missing out on the Stake F1 seat, which will be occupied by Gabriel Bortoleto in 2024, casting doubt on his future. Despite speculation, the young Argentine confirmed that the possibility of partnering with Nico Hulkenberg was never realistic for him.
“Yes,” he admitted to RacingNews365 when asked if he was disappointed. “Having one less spot available to drive next year is never a good thing. Gabriel really deserves it too. He’s a good guy, very fast, and obviously, he’s [at Stake].”
Franco Colapinto emphasized that the team had made its decision a long time ago and that he was never a concrete option.
Racing Bulls in the future?
Despite the disappointment, the 21-year-old looks ahead with determination. After a promising Formula 2 season, there is talk of a potential move into the Red Bull family. This opportunity could pave the way for a seat alongside drivers like Liam Lawson or Yuki Tsunoda.
“We’ll see what the future holds,” the young Argentine driver added.
Franco Colapinto is ready to explore new possibilities while staying focused on his ultimate goal: a full-time seat in Formula 1.
Franco Colapinto is considered one of the most promising young talents, thanks to his performances in the Williams program and his ability to adapt quickly to challenges. However, with Carlos Sainz set to join the British team in 2025, his chances of continuing as a substitute seem to have faded.
“We’ll see what happens,” the driver concluded. “My goal remains to keep racing and prepare for a future opportunity in Formula 1.”
