The 55-year-old Canadian will make his return to competition in the one-make series that supports Formula 1 weekends.
Still on track
Jacques Villeneuve’s motorsport career shows no sign of a definitive stop, and further confirmation has arrived with the official announcement from the Porsche Supercup championship.
Starting this season, and specifically from the opening race scheduled in Monaco at the beginning of June, the Williams ambassador will take part in the one-make championship that runs as a support series alongside Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends.
Career
Winner of the Indianapolis 500 and the CART championship in 1995, as well as Formula 1 World Champion two years later, the 55-year-old Canadian has remained active in various categories following his retirement from F1.
His post-Formula 1 career includes a second place finish at the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours, as well as more recent appearances in the World Endurance Championship up until 2023. He has also competed in NASCAR, rallycross, and Formula E.
Now, three years after his most recent racing appearances, Villeneuve will return to competition behind the wheel of a Porsche 911, with a special livery inspired by the colours of his iconic helmet design. The championship features eight rounds on the calendar, from Monaco to Monza.
Through its official social media channels, Porsche Supercup welcomed the Canadian driver:
“Former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will participate in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as a guest of honour! Winner of the Indianapolis 500, CART champion, and a leading name in top-level series ranging from Formula 1 to American open-wheel racing, even during his F1 career Villeneuve stood out not only for his driving but also for the unmistakable design of his helmet: inspired by his mother’s sweaters, its colourful stripes became one of his trademarks, instantly recognisable to motorsport fans around the world. This year, that distinctive look takes another step forward: his Supercup car features a special livery inspired by the iconic striped design. There is no doubt about his pedigree, and we are sure he will deliver plenty of excitement on track! Welcome, Jacques!”
Jacques Villeneuve’s return to the Porsche Supercup at the age of 55 is a testament to the enduring passion of a true racing purist, bridging the gap between the legendary F1 eras of the 1990s and the modern support paddock. While he joins the grid as a “guest of honor,” his aggressive driving style and vast experience across Le Mans and Indianapolis suggest he won’t be content simply making up the numbers. For fans at Monaco, seeing that iconic striped livery fighting through Sainte-Dévote will be a nostalgic highlight that underscores the timeless appeal of one of motorsport’s most unique personalities.
