Jack Doohan at Alpine
The 2025 season has yet to begin, but Alpine has already made some decisions regarding the next championship and the driver who will partner Pierre Gasly. As things stand, the Frenchman will have rookie Jack Doohan as his teammate following Esteban Ocon’s departure. Jack Doohan, the son of five-time MotoGP champion Mick Doohan, is at serious risk of losing his seat to Franco Colapinto.
Johnny Herbert Believes in Franco Colapinto
After securing a test driver role at Alpine following a strong second half of the season with Williams, Franco Colapinto is seen as a likely candidate for promotion by former driver Johnny Herbert, who was recently removed from his role as an FIA race steward. “I have the feeling that Jack Doohan’s days at Alpine are already numbered,” Herbert told *Crash*. “When I talk to people in the paddock, I see that they think exactly like me. Jack Doohan has to give his absolute best in the battle against Gasly, and if he doesn’t, he’ll be out. I know Flavio Briatore very well. He’ll be gone in the blink of an eye. He’s under a lot of stress right now.” – he pointed out.
As a result, Jack Doohan will have to perform at his very best to secure his place at Alpine for 2025. “This is part of the sport, unfortunately, and it happens especially in F1,” Johnny Herbert added. “Everything that’s been said puts immense pressure on Doohan, but that’s how it is. He’ll have to get in the car and give his best from the very first moment. Pierre Gasly is a driver who currently feels very comfortable within the team. He has a lot of support, of course, being French. Now it’s Doohan’s turn. But he’ll have enormous pressure on his shoulders because Colapinto will be there, close to Briatore, watching everything from the back of the garage. That’s when all those little things that create doubt come into play. And doubt is something you absolutely don’t want.”
