A former F1 world champion is officially saying goodbye to the world of racing, and he will do so with a final race in Bahrain.
He had already retired from the Circus in 2016, only to return to single-seaters for that year’s Monaco Grand Prix. Now, just months away from his forty-sixth birthday, Jenson Button, former F1 world champion, has decided to definitively leave racing. He will do so in Bahrain at the end of the 8 Hours of Bahrain, which concludes the WEC season in which he competes with the Jota team.
The British driver’s words ahead of the grand finale
The announcement came from Button himself in an interview on the eve of what will be his last race weekend. “This will be my last race. I have always enjoyed Bahrain, I think it is a fun circuit, and I will enjoy this experience as much as possible because it marks the end of my career. I have had a lot of fun in the WEC, but my life has become too hectic to continue into 2026. My children are growing up, and I want to spend as much time with them as I can. Until now, I haven’t done that, and I’m not willing to do it again for another season,” he told BBC Radio Somerset.
After leaving F1, Button tried his hand at the Super GT series, where he won the championship in 2018, before moving into Endurance racing, which will mark the conclusion of his long motorsport career.
