Fernando Alonso beyond expectations: “We thought we’d stop in Q1”
Fernando Alonso concluded Baku qualifying in an encouraging 11th place, following a difficult Friday and a car that was not ideally suited to the characteristics of the circuit. The Spanish driver maximized the chaotic conditions and multiple red flags, securing a strategic position for the race. With wind, rain, and unexpected events, Alonso aims to capitalize on every opportunity to return to the points on a track where chaos is always just around the corner.
Alonso reflects on a chaotic qualifying
Fernando Alonso is accustomed to expecting the unexpected. After another challenging weekend in Baku, he cleverly ensured himself a chance to fight for a good haul of points tomorrow. Here are his comments at the conclusion of qualifying:
“I came very close to Q3. It’s unexpected to finish this high. But I’m satisfied with 11th place, which is fantastic and beyond our expectations. We couldn’t perform the miracle of Q3, but hopefully we can score points. I was really struggling in practice, and we thought Q1 would be the limit. It’s a small positive surprise to be 11th, but it was such a strange qualifying, with so many interruptions, that maybe not everyone completed their laps at the right moment,” Fernando Alonso said.
