The Many Storylines of the 2025 F1 Season
Anticipation and excitement are building among fans as the 2025 season promises to deliver thrills. While much attention is focused on Lewis Hamilton’s debut with Ferrari, his former team is also preparing for a memorable year. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, making his Formula 1 debut with Mercedes, arrives with a stellar record of dominant victories in junior categories. This excludes his challenging season in Formula 2, which he still ended with two wins, a third-place finish, and sixth overall in the championship standings.
Kimi Antonelli’s Emotions Ahead of His F1 Debut
The young talent from Bologna was honored by *Autosprint* during the annual Golden Helmets ceremony, held this year at the Imola Circuit. Reflecting on the whirlwind of recent weeks, including his rookie test session with the Mercedes W15 in Abu Dhabi, Kimi Antonelli shared his excitement: “It’s a dream come true,” he told *Sky* about his F1 debut. “But it’s also true that since the announcement, my schedule has gotten much busier… I attended all the races, then there were the end-of-season tests, which were amazing. It felt a bit like the first day of school as an official driver—a wonderful experience.”
Naturally, the topic of goals couldn’t be avoided as Antonelli prepares to drive a top-tier car like the Mercedes, which won four GPs this past season. “Getting good results right away wouldn’t be bad, but it will be tough because I’ll be competing against the best drivers in the world. Plus, all the teams will be very close, as it’s the final year of this regulation set. I expect it won’t be easy, but so far, we’ve done a great job with Mercedes. I’ve been getting along really well with Bono (Peter Bonnington, Lewis Hamilton’s long-time engineer, who will work with Kimi Antonelli in 2025), and we’ve agreed that the most important thing next year is simply to have fun and not overcomplicate things. I’ll need to learn step by step without having too much information in my head to avoid making mistakes. I’m really happy and think next year will be a lot of fun!”
