“Fernando drives for Aston Martin, and it seems the team made a good step forward compared to before with the upgrades in Hungary. He is quite happy driving for Aston Martin,” Flavio Briatore said.

“For the moment, there is nothing to say on the matter. Fernando is an Aston Martin driver and, until the end of the season, he will remain an Aston Martin driver.”

The comments further reduce the likelihood of Fernando Alonso returning to the team with which he won his two Formula 1 world championships. His immediate focus instead remains on Aston Martin and whether its technical programme can produce a genuinely competitive package.
