Fernando Alonso has firmly ruled out competing in the 2027 Dakar Rally, dismissing recent speculation over a potential return to the event and making clear that such a programme would not be compatible with his Formula 1 commitments.
The Aston Martin driver addressed the rumours during the press conference ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, while also distancing himself from the possibility of entering GT3 competition in the near future.
Fernando Alonso rules out 2027 Dakar return
Fernando Alonso used his appearance ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix to shut down speculation that he could return to the Dakar Rally as early as the 2027 edition.
“I won’t race the 2027 Dakar, it’s not a programme compatible with the F1 schedule,” Fernando Alonso said. “When the time comes for me to announce a new commitment outside F1, I’ll be the one to do it and there won’t be rumours or speculation announcing it beforehand.”
The two-time Formula 1 world champion therefore remains focused on his current commitments with Aston Martin rather than preparing another Dakar campaign.
Alonso also distances himself from GT3 plans
Fernando Alonso also played down the possibility of moving into GT3 racing in the immediate future, contrasting his situation with Max Verstappen, who has competed and is due to compete again at Portimão.
“Every competition requires preparation and training, and GT3 is no exception. It’s a very competitive category for ‘specialists’,” Fernando Alonso explained.
His comments underline the amount of preparation required before combining another discipline with Formula 1, particularly while remaining committed to a full Grand Prix programme.
For now, Alonso’s priority remains F1. Any future racing programme outside the championship will be announced by the Spaniard himself when he decides the timing is right, rather than emerging through speculation beforehand.
