Another early exit

Alonso’s Italian Grand Prix had looked promising after starting from eighth place on the grid. By lap 17, he was holding seventh position when his car developed the suspension problem that forced him out. Once again, luck turned its back on the Spanish veteran, who appeared resigned to these recurring setbacks in the traditional post-race interviews.

“Missing 30 points”

“We use that kerb almost every lap, and the other drivers use it too,” Fernando Alonso explained, speaking about the failure on his AMR25. “But only our car had a suspension problem. These things always happen when we are running in the points. We’ve had races where we finished last, one lap down, and nothing happened. In Monaco, I think I was sixth and had to retire with an engine issue. Today I was seventh and retired with suspension failure. We’ve lost dozens of points. Probably luck is not on our side. It’s frustrating: I could probably have 20 or 30 more points than I do now, but that’s how it is. Unfortunately, I’m getting used to it.” – the Spanish driver pointed out at the end of the Italian Grand Prix.

Even the performance improvements shown by Aston Martin do not seem to be enough for car #14: “I don’t need good performance, I need points. The performance is always there. I can’t remember having very poor performances from myself or the team in 22 seasons. So it’s not really important. I think at this point the focus has to be on the 2026 project. But it’s frustrating. Every weekend we try to do well and luck is not with us.”
