The Brazilian Grand Prix offered little comfort for Fernando Alonso: the Spaniard struggled to complete the race, finishing outside the points, and felt deeply for his fellow Valencians who have been hit hard by severe flooding in recent days.
Fernando Alonso, representing Aston Martin, could hardly leave Brazil with a smile. The 1981-born driver from Oviedo pushed through the Interlagos Grand Prix despite facing physical strain, exacerbated by his car’s instability and excessive bouncing. During the closing laps, the thought of retiring crossed the two-time champion’s mind, but he ultimately chose to keep going “for the mechanics.” “In other circumstances, I might have decided to stop. However, the mechanics put in an incredible effort before the race to get the car ready in time. I had to finish the race for them,” Fernando Alonso explained.
The race conditions were far from pleasant: “We had severe bouncing, and the car struggled with porpoising in the second half of the race. I don’t know why, but it was a really challenging race, and we ended up with no points.” – he pointed out.
Finally, Fernando Alonso’s thoughts turned to the people of Valencia, who had been battered by extreme weather in the days leading up to the Brazilian GP weekend. “I didn’t feel comfortable in the car, but there are people who have it much worse than I do, including those in Valencia. Disturbing images are coming from there, people are suffering. I managed to push through a few more laps for everyone.” – the former Ferrari and McLaren driver concluded at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
