Aston Martin struggles in Mexico
Zero points for Aston Martin in Mexico. Lawrence Stroll’s team saw Fernando Alonso retire from the race, while Lance Stroll finished in 14th place. Haas, by contrast, scored a remarkable 14 points at the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit and now sits just seven points behind Aston Martin, intensifying the battle in the midfield that promises surprises all the way to Abu Dhabi.
Alonso criticizes the start
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire due to a brake problem, but he didn’t hold back in criticizing race control over what happened at the start. Fernando Alonso explained that he had been aggressive into Turn 1 and had gained positions, but then three or four cars rejoined the track ahead of him after cutting the first corner.
“I think it’s a bit unfair,” Fernando Alonso added. “This is the second time in a row that everything happens on the first lap at Turn 1, and the race directors look the other way. I take note of it.”
George Russell also expressed frustration at drivers effectively becoming “lawnmowers” without penalty, while Lewis Hamilton openly spoke about a double standard after receiving a penalty later for cutting the track at Turn 4.
