Fernando Alonso is determined to bounce back after a disappointing weekend at the Mexico City Grand Prix, where he retired due to technical issues. The two-time world champion hopes that with a car designed by aerodynamic wizard Adrian Newey for 2026, he will be able to compete at a higher level.
Fernando Alonso’s struggles at Mexico City have been long-standing. Since the Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar in 2015, he has rarely had strong results at the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. Between retirements and finishes outside the points, Alonso has only cracked the top 10 twice, never finishing higher than ninth. In the most recent race, the Aston Martin driver was forced to retire, having qualified 14th.
Despite these challenges, Fernando Alonso remains optimistic about the future. Aston Martin will debut a car designed by Adrian Newey next season, and the Spanish driver is hopeful that the aerodynamic improvements will help him avoid the performance issues he has faced in Mexico. He explained that historically he hasn’t scored many points at this track, citing past issues with engine failures and other setbacks, but emphasized that he has generally performed well relative to his teammates.
Fernando Alonso expressed confidence that when the car reaches its full potential, he will be competitive. He added that he enjoys racing at Mexico City and values the circuit, and believes that strong qualifying performances will translate into solid race results. He looks forward to approaching the remaining four races of the season with optimism, ready to seize any opportunities that arise.
