Fernando Alonso is eagerly awaiting the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season due to the high expectations he has for the Aston Martin project. The Spaniard hopes that starting this season, the British team can make a significant step forward compared to the 2024 season, which was, to say the least, a dark one. The biggest goal will be 2026, the year in which Fernando Alonso and the entire team hope to fight for the World Championship, given the arrival of key figures within the team, including the brilliant Adrian Newey, who will start working in April, and Enrico Cardile, former Ferrari member.
Here are the words of the Spaniard regarding his future expectations: “I am very confident about the future. In 2026, there will be a change in the regulations, and Adrian Newey will be working on the project starting this April. We must be excited and aim to have a good 2025, but winning the championship is a much bigger task. I already know that expectations will be high when we’re in the 2026 preseason or at the car launch,” he said in the ‘Decoded’ program on DAZN.
Recently, the British newspaper Daily Mail reported that Aston Martin had offered £1 billion to Max Verstappen to join the team, though we don’t know the actual truth behind this claim. However, the team already boasts a highly skilled driver like Alonso, who has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon. Will he be the driver around whom the 2026 project revolves, or is something else brewing at Aston Martin?
