A documentary about Fernando Alonso
There is no doubt that Fernando Alonso has been the driver who ignited Spanish fans’ interest in Formula 1, becoming the leading figure for the sport in his home country. It is no surprise, then, that the Spanish branch of Dazn dedicated a documentary to the two-time F1 world champion, titled *Decoded.*
Fernando Alonso discussed both on-track and personal topics, with contributions from figures who have worked with him, such as Pedro De La Rosa, Rob Smedley, Paul Monaghan, and Mike Krack.
A driver who knows how to adapt
At 43 years old, Fernando Alonso has competed not only in F1 but also in WEC, the Indianapolis 500, IMSA, and even the Dakar Rally, demonstrating a versatility that is certainly uncommon among drivers of this era.
“Since I was a child, I only had one kart and one set of tires, and in Asturias, it rains a lot,” the Spanish champion recalled. He continued: “When it rained, all the other kids would fit rain tires, and I would race on slicks because I couldn’t afford wets. And this is still true today: we all have resources for rain tires, but we don’t have Ferrari’s wings or McLaren’s floor.” – the former Ferrari and McLaren driver pointed out.
Fernando Alonso summarized: “This has been the story of my life—racing with slightly inferior tools and adapting to what I had.” Ferrari fans, of course, can’t help but think of the 2010 and 2012 championships, lost in the final race to Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull.
