F1 | Verstappen show: not only Max, father Jos wins the Belgian rally championship
The Verstappen family continues to dominate motorsport. After Max Verstappen’s triumph at the wheel of the Ferrari GT3, his father Jos Verstappen added another success by winning the Belgian Rally Championship. This weekend marked a double celebration, with father and son conquering two different disciplines at the highest level.
For Max Verstappen, four Formula 1 World Championships are not enough. The Dutch star has been eager to test himself beyond the Formula 1 paddock, and he returned to competition in style during the break before the Singapore Grand Prix. At the Nürburgring, the “Green Hell” of German motorsport, Verstappen made his debut in the GT3 category with the Ferrari 296 GT3 prepared by the Scuderia from Maranello.
Racing alongside the more experienced Chris Lulham, Max Verstappen immediately showed his class and pace. In his very first appearance in GT3, the Ferrari driver crossed the finish line in first place in the 4 Hours of Nürburgring, a round of the prestigious NLS Championship. It was an impressive result that highlighted his adaptability and determination to succeed in every form of racing.
While Max Verstappen was celebrating at the Nürburgring, his father Jos Verstappen also achieved a major milestone in his own racing career. Competing in the Belgian Rally Championship with a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 and partnered with co-driver Renaud Jamoul, Jos secured the title despite finishing third in the final rally of the season. The podium result was enough to crown him Belgian champion, proving once again that the Verstappen name is synonymous with victory.
Jos Verstappen expressed his satisfaction after sealing the title: “We are definitely satisfied with the result we achieved. This rally was not the most exciting for us because we went for safe tire choices. In the end, we had the right tires on the car and things worked out a little better. The main goal today was to win the championship, and that’s what we focused on. The support of the co-driver was fundamental, we understood everything perfectly. I love being at the front of the pack. Having fun is important, and then the results come. Now that we are so strong, it’s obviously a pleasure.”
With victories across two different disciplines, the Verstappen family continues to make headlines in the world of motorsport. Max Verstappen keeps raising the bar with Ferrari on the track, while Jos Verstappen has confirmed his talent on the rally stages. Together, they have proven that racing success truly runs in the family.
