Andrea Kimi Antonelli will face his first home Grand Prix as a Formula 1 driver with a special helmet.
The Mercedes driver revealed on social media the helmet he will wear this weekend at the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola.
The design of the helmet remains the same, but every inch of the colour scheme reflects Italy. A glossy light blue base trimmed in red, with white stripes. The usual Mercedes star sits on the forehead, while the Italian tricolour runs down the sides.
Right in the middle of the Italian flag is the inscription “Grazie Imola.” The same tricolour, shaped like a spearhead, appears on the top of the helmet, surrounded by white stars and his racing number, 12.
But the most meaningful and emotional part is the back. The section that rests on the headrest displays a photo of Ayrton Senna. More precisely, it shows the statue that stands directly opposite the point where the three-time world champion from Brazil crashed into the wall on that tragic 1st of May, 1994.
The image is in black and white, again surrounded by four white stars. A touching way for Andrea to pay tribute to the man who was his idol, even though he never saw him race live due to generational timing.
